Highland Lifelong Learning: The Assassination of Lincoln and the Saga of Dr. Mudd

Who was Dr. Mudd and why was he sentenced to life in prison at Fort Jefferson after the Assassination of Lincoln? Follow the assassination, escape, trial, conviction, sentencing, and hanging of John Wilkes Booth and others in July 1865, and the recent efforts to have Dr. Mudd’s good name restored.

Taught by Dr. Gordon Dammann.

Dr. Dammann founded the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Maryland in 2000. He has been interested in Civil War history since he was a young boy and began his collection of Civil War memorabilia in the early 1970s. What started as a hobby became a lifelong passion. He is the author of Volumes I, II, and III of the Pictorial Encyclopedia of Civil War Medical Instruments and Equipment and co-author of Images of Civil War Medicine – A Photographic History. He is an Antietam Battlefield guide in Maryland and guest lecturer across the country on many Civil War topics
