Disability Voting Rights Call to Action (in-person)

September 12 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Disability Voting Rights Week is a nonpartisan movement hosted by the American Association of People with Disabilities, REV UP and Lynn Gallagher, District #11 Representative on the Jo Daviess County Board. DVRW is about advocacy, celebrating community, and building power. This learning experience will include voter registration, education about issues that impact those with disabilities and creative actions.
The disability community makes up an important voting bloc. Disabled voters are a part of every community. Yet, systemic barriers prevent many people with disabilities from accessing their right to vote. DVRW was created by grassroots disabled activists. DVRW is a cross-disability, cross-movement week of action. We invite all community members and allies to join us.
Lynn Gallagher, Ed.D., is Program Director of the Disability Studies Graduate Program and recently retired as the Director of the Lynch Disability Resource and Cultural Center, both at Loras College. She has lived in Galena since 1995 and has been involved in numerous boards and commissions, both locally and at the state and national levels including the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities, THINK COLLEGE Illinois, and the Economic and Employment Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities Task Force (all appointed by the Governor). Locally, Gallagher served on the Galena Chamber Ensemble the Galena ARC, Galena Academic Booster Club, Rainbow Ridge boards of directors and was treasurer of the Galena Primary PTK. She is currently the President Elect of Galena Rotary and co-chair of the events committee for Galena2026. She is also a volunteer EMT with Galena EMS.
