The Galena Public Library partnered with the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation to begin a quarterly book discussion series, Community Reads for Inquiring Minds. The library will partner with other scientifically oriented organizations and individuals in the future. Register here.
This first meeting will feature a discussion of the book Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. The discussion will be moderated by Jessica Carryer. Jess came to JDCF in August of 2018 as the Outreach and Education Manager where she facilitates opportunities for people to grow an appreciation for their natural resources and the mission of JDCF.
She chose this book for discussion because it gives us an understanding of our interconnectedness with nature and the value of Native American traditional knowledge with today’s land stewardship challenges. This traditional way of understanding has become more important in stewarding our local nature preserves like Horseshoe Mound, Casper Bluff, Wapello, and others.
This discussion will be presented in a hybrid format. When registering, please click the correct option, In-Person Attendance inside the library or Virtual Attendance on Zoom. In-person seats are limited.
